Maida Tests the Model 1S

Chris Maida is caught throwing a leg over a Brass Balls Model 1S motorcycle in Sturgis SD this past year. Moments later he snicked the sled into gear and blasted off towards the Badlands.

As the editor of American Iron Magazine, Maida can test just about any bike that he wants. He decided to exercise the Softail-style custom-production motorcycle for a full week during the 2009 edition of Sturgis. His review will be in an upcoming issue of the magazine.

Enthusiasts and owners of the Model 1S have agreed that this is one cool bike. And with Maida’s black shades and black T, black jeans, and black ride, well, we think he is sporting his James Dean look.

The hand-built custom-production Model 1S is just 17,995. To get your James Dean look call the office today at 405-270-0995.

This Chopper is Ready for Ignition

A great chopper is not built, it’s created. It begins as the seed of an idea germinating in the mind of its creator. Bit by bit, the builder brings the machine to life… That is what Tom captured in his first book, Art of the Chopper published by Motorbooks Int’l in 2003. Zimberoff’s engaging text provides an in-depth analysis of the each designer’s philosophy and unique style.

This is the reincarnation of Tom Zimberoff’s original “Art Of The Chopper” bike. The original bike was mint green, swoopy and not quite road worthy.

The Brass Balls team was tasked with the challenge of making Tom’s sled cool, ride-able and keeping as many of the existing components as possible.

Several new components had to be created, like a new chassis, pipes, oil tank, seat and shock, new tins (which we copper’ed then patina’d).

Google search “art of the chopper” to see how it lived as a trailer queen before we got a hold of it.

It makes our heart proud to see the American motorcycle community pull together and help those in need. From returning vets to children in hospitals to families devastated by job loss, the biker community stands tall to help the people that need a helping hand. And to those people that are making a difference and supporting your community and our country, I salute you.

The Military Bobber was Raffled Off @ Broken Spoke Saloon During Biketoberfest

Gary Zorn purchased his winning raffle ticket at Rick Fairless’ Strokers Dallas motorcycle dealership to support the Intrepid Fallen Heros Fund and won the bike during Biketoberfest on Friday, October 16th at the Broken Spoke Saloon.

Earlier in the year, Gary was in Dallas visiting family and decided to checkout Strokers. He is a big supporter of the military and purchased three tickets, one for him, one for his son and one for his son-in-law.

Gary currently rides a 1995 Fat Boy and is looking forward with great expectations in adding this Digger Bobber to his stable.

“I’m getting calls from family and friends saying that they want to help me out by riding the bike for me,” said a laughing Zorn. “And since this bike represents so much, from supporting the troops to American ingenuity, I will be sharing it with my buddies.”

“There are so many individuals that I would like to thank in contributing time and effort in this project,” said Dar Holdsworth, Brass Ball Bossman. “They include Howard Kestenberg for getting the project rolling, Keith Ball of Bikernet, Chris Callen of Cycle Source, Ray Wheeler, Wacko, Bob Kay of A Bikers Garage, Rick Fairless of Strokers Dallas, Saddleman, Jay Allen of the Broken Spoke Saloon, my wife, our Brass Balls’ team and Sal Digiacomo.”

The Brass Balls’ Digger Bobber features an army green paint scheme and the logo of each branch of the service etched into the open primary, dramatically highlighting all five branches. The frame is clear coated to show off the welds and construction… a no nonsense military style.

Manufacturers that contributed to the original build of the Digger includes John White of Crazy Horse for his stunning V-Plus powerplant, Jeral Tidwell on his creative paint theme, Hawg Halters for controls, Crime Scene Choppers for their headlight and air cleaner, Tauer Machine LLC. for the open primary, Scott Webster of Leroy Thompson for the hammered brass signature series grips, and Rich Phillips with Bikersaddles.com for the hand tooled leather seat.

The award winning motorcycle won the Military Bike Build-Off in Branson, Missouri held on May 15-18, 2008. Howard Kestenberg purchased the bike for the Intrepid Fallen Heros Fund and Brass Balls spearheaded the raffle program.

Details on the Military Bobber

We started with a clear powder-coated Brass Balls Bobbers gooseneck frame to show its high quality construction. The frame is 1026 DOM steel and hand TIG welded. The team Scotchbrite-textured all the chrome and polished components. Some special-built components include: Hawg Halters hand controls, Crime Scene “Rapide” headlight and air cleaner, Tauer Machine 2 inch Warlord primary, Leroy Thompson hammered brass signature series grips, Rich Phillips hand-tooled leather seat and Chopper Shocks seat shock system. We fabricated foot controls constructed from 1918 trench warfare knives, as well as a P-51 style exhaust.
